Dr. José Julián Cao-Alvira is a full Professor of Finance and Economics at The City University of New York. He has a Ph.D. in Economics from Cornell University and holds the CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ (CFP®) and Financial Risk Manager (FRM®) designations.
He lectures courses in corporate finance, investments, financial economics, econometrics and banking for a number of academic institutions in New York, including CUNY and Columbia University. He has also served as a visiting professor in several research centers in Europe and South America.
José Julián has received industry recognition for his scientific research, including being named the recipient of a Fulbright U.S. Scholar Award. He serves on multiple advisory committees for a number of national and international institutions. His manuscripts have been published in numerous peer-reviewed scientific journals, including Managerial Finance, Journal of International Financial Management and Accounting, Computational Economics, North American Journal of Economics and Finance, Review of Development Economics, Emerging Markets Finance and Trade, International Trade Journal and International Finance.
José Julián has also held executive administrative positions in higher education institutions in the U.S., most recently as the Associate Dean for the School of Natural and Social Sciences of Lehman College at The City University of New York. During his tenure, he served 11 academic departments and over 135 full-time faculties in budgeting, scheduling, learning assessments, curriculum development and support to over 4,200 students.
As an economic and financial consultant, José Julián has advised numerous public and private enterprises on privatizing government-controlled monopolies, developing project profitability analyses, and constructing economic impact evaluations. As a CFP®, he focuses on building long-term financial plans for corporations and individuals. He also supports families while they build strong foundations for a solid retirement and protect their legacy.
José Julián loves to travel alongside his wife and daughter. Whenever they can escape the daily grind, they love to take road trips, go camping and embark on new adventures.
